JOB DESCRIPTION

 POSITION:       Spray Technician – Golf Course Maintenance

 REPORTS TO:  Director of Agronomy / Assistant Superintendent

 LOCATION:      Boca Grove Golf Course Maintenance / Golf Course

 DATE:  4/25/2024

           

  • SUMMARY:  The Spray Technician position prefers an individual holding an Applicators Pesticides license or if you do not have one, you must have the ability to obtain one within 3-6 months.  The Spray Technician is responsible for pesticide and fertilizer applications and other labor-intensive golf course and landscape maintenance.  The individual should have recordkeeping skills, calibration experience, and experience operating a tractor and other spraying and mixing tanks.  Must demonstrate ability to follow both written and oral instructions given by supervisor.  Use independent decision-making judgment to complete work assignments while abiding to the law.  Must be able to maintain good working relationships with other employees and able to work with or without supervision.  This includes meeting or exceeding the established standards for guest and employee satisfaction.  Additional duties may be assigned as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

1. Application of fertilizers and pesticides to the golf course and landscape needs of the property of Boca Grove.

2. Proper pre-check and safe operation of vehicles, equipment, and various tools.

  • Everyday use the operation of Carts, Pro Gators, GPS Spray Units, Tractor, Adams Spreader, 500 Gallon Sprayer, 25 Gallon Sprayer, 1-4 gallon back pack sprayer and other equipment located at the Golf Course Maintenance Building.

 3. Understand oral and / or written daily assignments and perform duties timely and with pride.

 4. Perform miscellaneous duties, assist other departments, & help with functions.

 5. Respect members, guests, co-workers, family of Boca Grove & members of the community.

 6. Knowledge of products, taking inventory, and organizing products.

 7. Knowledge of environmentally sensitive buffers, interpreting pesticide labels, proper disposal of excess      products, triple rinsing equipment, wearing proper PPE, and being safe.

 8. Be environmentally sensitive and preserve the turf, landscape, indigenous plants, and the property of Boca Grove.

 9. Reading, understanding and staying current with MSDS (materials safety data sheets)

10. Site monitoring and treatment recommendations

11. Performing routine safety inspections on all spraying and application equipment


NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
  • Assist other departments and functions.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

            Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License

Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience as a Spray Technician of a golf course maintenance or landscape maintenance through references or work history preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Prior experience applying fertilizers and chemicals.
  • Must demonstrate ability to learn proper and safe use of vehicles, spray equipment, spreaders, spray tanks, nozzles, mix tanks, and handling pesticides.
  • Able to walk up to 3 miles.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and maximum 100 lbs.
  • Mix and apply fertilizers and pesticides at correct rates.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and pesticide use
  • Attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to work alone, and make good decisions 
  • Time management/organizational skills.
  • Clean work habits
  • Basic mechanical skills
  • Interest in learning and self improvement
